Gaskets          Clutches & Bands          Pumps        Fluids
Filters          Internal & External Seals           Shafts          Drums
Planet Gears          Sealing Rings          Torque Converter

Torque Converter – Replaces the clutch that is required in a manual transmission, this is how an automatic transmission vehicle can come to a stop while still being in gear without stalling the engine. The torque converter is what provides the physical connection between the engine and transmission of your car. One of the most common components that fail in your automatic trans.

Automatic Transmission Clutches – An automatic transmission clutch pack consists of multiple alternating disks that fit inside a metal clutch drum. To effect gear changes, one of two types of clutches or bands are used to hold a particular member of the planetary gear set motionless, while allowing another member to rotate, thereby transmitting torque and producing gear reductions or overdrive ratios. There are multiple automatic transmission clutch packs in your car. There is usually one clutch pack for each shift of the vehicle or speed of the vehicle.

Auto Transmission Pump – Typically an automatic transmission has a gear pump mounted between the torque converter and the planetary gear set. It draws transmission fluid from a sump and pressurizes it, which is needed for transmission components to operate. When the pump begins to fail or go bad, several signs will alert you. Increased vehicle noise a hum, whirring, blowing can be a sign of a bad or weak vehicle automatic transmission oil pump. Check engine light, burning smell, harsh shifting, noises are all good signs to let a pro check out your trans.

The Famous Valve Body – The heart of the automatic transmissions hydraulic control system is the valve body. It’s considered the hydraulic control center, it receives pressurized fluid from the main pump operated by the fluid coupling torque converter. Are you having an issue shifting into the last gear? When you try to drive your car does it feel like the emergency brake is on? Is there a delay in engagement when placed into gear? These could be signs of a deteriorating valve body.

Auto Transmission Fluid (ATF) – This fluid is a highly specialized oil optimized for the special requirements of the automatic transmission. It helps protect valve operation, brake band friction issues and the auto torque converter failures that most have heard about. Cannot forget the gear lubrication properties. The biggest killer of the automatic transmission in our eyes is not changing your transmission fluid as required. The boiling point of new trans fluid is 300 to 400 degrees °C. Old abused trans fluid might be like water with a boiling point of 100 °C. That is how people cook or smoke there transmission until it is well done, then you need a rebuild. Better safe then sorry. A little knowledge goes a long way, also it requires one less trip to the bank.
